Linda(LR) and Carol in Salt Lake City in 1981
During my childhood, I always asked my parents about our family and where they
came from. They would say "Oh, it is a long time ago and nobody remembered." I was always wondering about my great, great grandparents and people before their time. It was a mind boggling for me. It all started with old pictures on our wall and I would stare at them for a long time and get lost in the past.
In 1978, at my first high school reunion, I was introduced to Carol Barnes who was dating with one of my former classmates. Carol mentioned to me about her interest in genealogy. I never heard of it and was surprised that it is about finding family members of the past. She invited me to her home to see her family collection. Carol show me how to trace family ancestors and we went to Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. The library is largest genealogical and learned so much about my family history. I've collected printed materials, pictures, cemeteries and stories on our family since that time. I've been a genealogist for 30 years and the questions I asked when I was a child are answered. I want to preserve the family history for my children, grandchildren and more to come in the future. I hope my blog will inspire someone in our family to carry it on.
I am very fortunate to have Carol Barnes as my dear friend and I thank her for the enlightenment I received through genealogy. I wish her the best of luck with the missionary work in Salt Lake City.
